KEEPING a check on machine functions during important farming operations is critical and Farmscan has now made the task a little easier for producers with the release of new technology that combines a number of meters and monitors into one system.
The compan's new Jackal product incorporates area, batch and tacho meters as well as rate, spray, pressure and surveillance monitors in one unit.
General Manager Ian Giles said the Jackal monitored a number of machine functions such as shaft speeds, pressures and bin/tank levels, and it also provided ground speed, distance and area recording for a range of equipment including airseeders, drills and sprayers.
"It combines all of these meters and monitors into one simple, easy-to-use system,"Mr Giles said
"A variety of sensors can also be added to custom-fit the units to producers' particular machinery and farming requirements."
The Jackal can be calibrated to fit any tractor or implement and for area recording, it displays kilometres per hour or miles per hour and individual trip and total readouts, allowing to record both total and field areas and to separate trip areas for each load. With an optional standby kit, it won't count ground covered during refill trips.
For spraying, it can provide the exact quantity of water for each spray tank mix, displaying flow rate volume for each batch and the accumulated total in litres or gallons. It's ideal for large spray tanks, especially on part fills or when filling on uneven ground
It's easy to check that important shafts and pulleys are turning at the right speed with the Jackal. It provides an instant RPM readout on up to six inputs and, with its user-adjustable alarm points, a clear, audible warning occurs if RPM climbs too high or falls too low. Via a resettable counter function, the unit can also be used to register shaft rotations to measure-out feed or record the number of bales produced during bailing.
The Jackal can display live application rates and so is ideal for use with seeders and spreaders with a variable rate gearbox drive. It can simultaneously monitor up to four products.
